Message from Governor Abdullahi Adamu
Goodwill message from the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency, Alhaji (Dr.) Abdullahi Adamu, Sarkin Yakin Keffi
I am pleased to welcome you to the Nasarawa State tourism website, the first of its kind in Nigeria. Our state is a proud pioneer in the dissemination of information through the global information super high way, the Internet. Our decision to build this site was informed by government recognition of the urgent need to open up the state to potential local and foreign investors by showing them the immense natural treasures of our state and the potential for exploitation in viable medium and large scale industrial enterprises. The exploitation of these resources would be for our mutual benefit. Investors will recoup their investments and the state will benefit from the expanded opportunities for economic, commercial and social development.
Nasarawa is a relatively young state in Nigeria. It is basically an agrarian state. It is a major producer of food and cash crops. But in addition to a vast arable land that supports both peasant farming and modern agriculture, nature has blessed the state with vast deposits of a variety of solid mineral resources, most of which have been found to be in commercial quantities. No other state in the country comes close to Nasarawa in the richness and the diversity of its solid mineral resources. The state has not on its own exploited these resources because under our laws, the ownership of all mineral resources, solid or liquid, is vested in the federal government. I am pleased to note that the federal government has taken the first necessary step towards the exploitation of the solid minerals in the state with the aerial geological survey now in progress.
The state website receives numerous enquiries from potential foreign investors on our solid mineral resources. Some of them have taken steps towards exploiting them. We welcome them and assure them of a most conducive working environment.
Our tourism website showcases the richness and the diversity of our tourist attractions. Every local government area in Nasarawa State boasts of at least two tourist attractions. Our state is a work of nature in progress. The cascading Eggon hills are, in the true sense of the word, breath-taking. These and the magnificent Farin Ruwa Water Falls are among the great wonders of nature. The Eggon cave harbours a wealth of mystery of its own. Cultural and cottage industries are found in various parts of the state. The salt mines in Awe and Keana have always been a curious attraction to local and foreign investors.
Although most of the tourist sites in the state are yet to be commercially exploited, we are pleased to say that the state is taking giant, pioneering steps in this regard. We have commenced the development of the Farin Ruwa water falls. A multi-million Naira hydro-electric dam is sited there. When this project is completed, it will greatly expand the falls and the environs and increase its commercial exploitation in such areas as agriculture and fishing. We welcome all potential investors in our tourist industry as partners in our economic and industrial development programme.
The state ministry of culture and tourism is ready to handle all enquiries from visitors to this website. The ministry will also assist all genuine potential investors who wish to visit the state.
